OK, if any of the characters of the MWPP generation will come out of the series alive, Remus is the most probable candidate. But there is still the distinct possibility that Rowling wants to kill off all of them. I don't believe for one moment that Remus will take up the father figure role in Harry's life. His attitude towards Harry has always been friendly, yet distant. He offers technical advice and support, but hardly any emotional one. I don't think the events in OotP have changed anything about him. But then again, Rowling can still prove me wrong.
