[livejournal.com profile] themostepotente was discussing Dark versus Fluff. [livejournal.com profile] scribbulus_ink just posted her opinion on what she thinks is the genre she mostly writes.

And now I've got a simple question: What do you think I write? Do I write fluff or do I write dark? I know the answer is most likely not so simple, and I would say that I write drama/angst, but I am curious as to how readers feel about my particular branch of angst. Most of my fics have a happy ending (or an open ending), I don't torture too much and I don't kill 'em off. But my characters don't end up in happy relationships, there are no proclamations of love and Snape's hair is greasy. So what I want to know is your gut reaction to my fics. Humour me.

[Poll #385906]

ETA: Whee! My first poll! Whee! Humour me, please?

I picked plz write more, but that's not very helpful so you get a comment too. I like both fluff and darkfic, so I'm not criticizing either type, but they are very limited terms. We need a new term (or I need to know what term to use!) for stories like yours. I have seen the term flangst (fluffy angst) but I hate it madly so I will not call them that. I call 'em dramas but there's probably something more descrptive.

In any event, plz write more. :)

I agree with the fluffy angst term (and the fact that flangst is butt ugly) when it comes to your fics, Donna sweetheart. The thing is that your stories are richer than just dark or just fluff - just like real life can be. But still: plz write moooooore! ;P

Heh! Thanks! :-) I'm trying to write more, but my fingers are slower than my brain, which gets annoyed at the sluggish progress and keeps wandering off to think of sex.

As I said, I wanted a simple either-or evaluation. Just because. But I'm glad that I manage to produce something that is a bit more complex *g*

produce something that is a bit more complex
It reminds me of those scientists who answer to the question "2+2=4?" 'no necessarily' - quantum maths applied to fandom lol

I'll try my best :-)

I generally like both, if not overdone, so this is what I'm aiming for. However, I noticed that I do put up a "darkfic", "blood" and "non-con" warnings every now and then, whereas I've never put up a "fluff" warning as yet. So I was curious how readers feel about my fics. Thank you for indulging my narcism by talking about My Writing and Me *g*

I ticked 'dark' but that isn't exactly how I see them - it's more 'realism' (if you can call it that with wizards!) What I'm trying to say is that your characters have very realistic, human reactions to situations. Remus is endlessly believable (and teh hot!)
and ok, maybe you don't sum everything up with a perfect happy ending, but again - realism!

So. If you understand what I'm getting at then - go you! *g*

What, are you implying wizards aren't real? That Remus isn't real?!

Realism, eh? Thank you very much. That's exactly what I'm going for, and I'm happy it works out. Remus is teh hawt, there's nothing I could do to prevent it even if I tried *shrugs*
