Guilty pleasures
As I'm sure many of you don't know (because I don't really talk about it), RPS is a dirty, secret and very, very guilty pleasure of mine. I read it occasionally - though I've never managed to bring myself to writing it*, because something about it makes me queasy.*** But seeing as my crush on Ewan McGregor is currently in full swing, I have been hunting down Ewan fics and Ewan!characters fics, but there aren't all that many around, if one doesn't read Star Wars and Velvet Goldmine**** slash. I've been reading Ewan McGregor/Jude Law, which doesn't fully satisfy me, because don't like Jude Law.
And now
hippediva mentioned 21 Jump Street, and after a short exchange about Johnny's character name (Tom Hanson), which was taken up by Ryan Philippe in LA Crash (where he plays a young police officer named Tom Hanson), my brain supplied me with images of Johnny Depp/Ryan Philippe slash, and, as I said to
hippediva, I think there totally should be more rare RPS around.
At the moment*****, I would like to read any combinations featuring the following actors:
Ewan McGregor, Johnny Depp, Ryan Philippe, Johnny Lee Miller, Orlando Bloom******, Hugh Grant******* and, just for the fun of it, Jeremy Irons.
I would also like to write Ewan!Frank Churchill/Jeremy!Mr. Knightley slash. Ah well. One of these days.
Funnily, it's almost exactly-though-not-quite one year ago that I talked about a related issue.
*yet**
**Well, apart from John Paul II/Ratzinger.
***One should think that by writing John Paul II/Ratzinger, I successfully eliminated any capability of feeling shame, but it isn't so.
****Velvet Goldmine is teh pretty, of course, but the film is so much a slash fic in its own right that there's nothing more for a slasher to do.
*****This is likely to change on a whim. I'm as fickle as they come.
*****Who is the guiltiest of all guilty pleasures, because I don't even fancy him; but he's just so slashable!
******Who - allegedly - once said that at the point when he met Liz at college, he had sucked more cocks than she had.

I think this may have to be my new crack OTP.
Do you not read Star Wars RPS because you dislike it or because you don't know Star Wars well? Because

I don't like the Star Wars movies and Ewan's weird hairstyle and fuzzy beard. And I don't care for Hayden. Therefore I don't actively hunt for Star Wars fics. But as you're pointing me to good ones, it would be silly to not check them out. So thank you.

Mr Darcy/Mr Bingley is so very true, I always though any Wickham/Darcy was childhood fumblings adding to the hatred now (that makes it sound like I spend a lot more time thinking about it than I really do but the thought has crossed my mind once or twice *grins*)

I usually rather go for the antagonists-turned-lovers than friends-turned-lovers dynamics, but Darcy/Bingley is just so right.
And of course there has been some childhood fumbling! It's glaringly obvious *g*

And by God, it is slashy!
I've got only an intellectual letter-writing Darcy icon; but one might imagine it's one of the instances where Firth was supposed to imagine Darcy had an erection. Amazing, how little thought it contribute pornyness to the most innocent pictures.

I love Ryan Philippe, he's teh hott! In fact I like all the actors in your list, even Hugh Grant, I didn't think that was possible but he really did it for me in About a Boy.
I think RPS is difficult... it's just a lot of research and hard work to get a sense of the "character" or at least the public persona, background, actual marital state, the works. When it's good, it's good but very often it ends up reading like "body!fic" just smut where you could interchange Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale and it would still be the same fic. I really don't like that.

Ah, Ryan... It's weird, because I usually don't go for those lush types, but he is delicious. Hugh did it for me in About a Boy, too. And I liked his Daniel Cleaver, too. He should play the bastard more often, it becomes him.
I think RPS is difficult for exactly the reasons you listed. In a way, characters in RPS must feel even more real than in fiction-based fics. I like them best when they're pretty straightforward, with smooth, plain dialogue and not much, I don't know, additional drama and angst and what not.
