LE/RL OTP?!?

Right. I'm catching up on what's been going on in the fandom recently, and a movie-based theory seems to be floating around, which I do find quite amusing: Remus was in love with Lily. (And possibly vice versa.)

While I'm by no means opposed to an occasional Remus/Lily fic (seeing as I rather like het!Remus, and there aren't many female candidates to pair him off with), I so don't see it happening in canon. Having read movie spoilers before I went to see the film, I was prepared for the Remus-talks-about-Lily-scene and was curious as to how it went. But: From what I recollect, Remus was going on about Lily's eyes and how she used to be able to see people's true selves (or something along these lines; I only watched the film once), and we know, as Rowling has stated explicitly it many, many times, that the fact that Harry's got Lily's eyes will become very important in future books. Indication of true-yet-unfulfilled love? Hardly. More likely an indication of the importance of Lily's role in Harry's future life and career.

Incidentally, I love non-fandom people's theories on HP. My boss wanted to know the other day how I think the series will end, and contributed the - as I find - charming theory that Ron is going to die and return as zombie warrior fighting on Voldemort's side. I so can see this happen on ff.net...

Hmm - my significant other somehow convinced himself that Snape and Dumbledore are really one and the same person!

Heh! That's a cool one. Include the Knight2King theory and it logically follows: When Snape = Dumbledore = Ron then Snape = Ron. On a meta level this means Ron will go over to the Dark side after all, but he will redeem himself by returning to the Light... Um, I'm trying to work this out, but it makes my brain hurt.

I hadn't known that Rowling had said that about the importantance of Harry having Lily's eyes, I'm glad you mentioned it. I didn't think the scene was meant to hint at a Remus/Lily past, but I wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. I think you're right, and that seeing people's true selves - seeing beyond their labels of werewolf, Slytherin, or whatever - is certainly going to continue as an important theme.

Oh, I thought that this is a well-know piece of information, because I usually don't tend to know much about what Rowling's said in her interviews. Anyway, the importance of Lily's eyes has been pointed out by her as well as Dumbledore (and probably other characters too, which I can't think of from the top of my head). The "seeing true selves" bit is paraphrased, as I don't remember the exact wording, but he said something along those lines, and I assumed that it was meant as a sort of general-piece-of-wisdom bit, quite like the speech Sirius holds in the end. And it is an important theme of the novels indeed.
