You know how sometimes when you read HP it strikes you that you've met this character before, under quite dissimilar circumstances? I was listening to OotP the other day, and when I reached the passage where Draco rolls his eyes, wiggles his tongue and pulls grosteque grimaces (or something along these lines; it's hard to keep track of what silly thing exactly Draco is doing in which book), I realised: Draco is Chandler Bing.

Think about it. Far from being the Ice Prince of Slytherin, Draco is the class clown. Plus, he's indeniably got that certain, ah, quality (much discussed in season 1, if I'm not mistaken).

Also: headstrong, attractive mother who knows what she wants? Check. Blond, attractive father, who likes prancing around, runs off with the house boy... elf... boy, and joins some dubious cult movement where he can indulge in his fondness for extravagant clothes?Check. And Pansy Parkinson is so Janice.

In supporting roles:

Hermione Granger as Monica
Luna Lovegood as Phoebe
Ginny Weasley as Rachel
Neville Longbottom as Ross
and
Crabbe'n'Goyle as Joey

Seriously. Can't you just picture Crabbe'nGoyle grunting "How ya doin'?" at random girls? And I know Harry thinks they're ugly, but we know that Harry appreciates the slender, elegant type and ignores the butch.

On a similar note: Fanon!Sirius and Remus are so Scott and Mike from My Own Private Idaho. It's almost as though the movie was an AU version of the average Sirius/Remus post-Hogwarts fic.

Hmm... Draco as Chandler?

Don't see it. ^^ I don't know Friends, but Chandler, from the sounds of it, seems more like Harry or Ron.

Yes, but neither Harry nor Ron have a dad who'd look good in silk and pull off a stage performance in a gay night club!

I'm just being silly. That's all.

See, I have always said that the central thingy is a brother and sister and his best friend, who marries the sister, so you have...

Harry as Chandler - Harry is very sarcastic!funny...
Ron as Ross - which pains me, as I adore Ron...
Ginny as Monica

That gives you her friend...
Hermione as Rachel - for Ron/Ross (so NOT write Ron/Ross)

You cannot get away from...
Luna as Phoebe

and that leaves sex-God
Neville as Joey

Much more suitable dynamics-wise than my concept, but you must admit that Draco and Chandler share the same parents. I mean, really - James Potter would so not prance around the stage of a sleazy night club. In a silk dress.

I dunno, I can't help but see Ginny as Rachel and Hermione as Monica. Hermione has the whole obsessive-compulsive personality going on. I can so see her organizing her towels books into 11 categories, and so on. Ginny, on the other hand, strikes me more as like Rachel--a bit more overall passionate but not in such an obsessive way. I'm especially reminded of the episode where Phoebe takes a lit class and brings Rachel, but Rachel only wants to have fun and therefore doesn't read the books for it. When Phoebe confronts Rachel about it, Rachel suggests Monica if Phoebe wants to go with someone who wants to learn. When Phoebe invites Monica to the class, Monica raises her hand just as much and as hard as Hermione does (which Draco makes fun of in PoA). Just my thoughts :)

I went through a Friends phase before Christmas and watched all seasons on DVD within a mere few weeks. Now all the information I processed are leaking out ;-)

BTW, in the process of catching up on my flist I read your Sound of Music sporking yesterday and realised how blissfully ignorant I've been with regard to that film. I never knew it was based on a true story. I only knew there was something about a singing nun. And hills. And many children. But that's about it.

I tried to build this theory with only Harry's gang, which concluded in:
Hermione=Monica
Luna=Phoebe
Rachel=Ginny
(so far we're similar :P)
Ron=Chandler (he's way funnier than Draco)
Which leaves Harry with Ross (because of Rachel-Ginny) and Neville with Joey (although he is, er, not Joey. And he's not Ross either! Ross is pretty annoying, isn't he?) but I guess the last two are, em, switchable.

Well, the girls are pretty easy. Everyone's got to agree on Luna = Phoebe at least.

I absolutely agree that Ron's funnier than Draco - but he doesn't try to be funny. Draco and Chandler do. Plus, Draco's and Chandler's parents are interchangeable: Arthur Weasley doesn't have the ego for a stage career, while Charles Bing and Lucius Malfoy perform confidently in Viva Las Gaygas and even have the same haircut.

You're on crack. I like it. It's a sort of genius.

My own private picture of Draco is Bart Simpson, I must say.

Yes, the crack supply has been good lately.

Bart Simpson as Draco is indeed strangely appropriate. But would that make Lucius Homer? And - heh! - Voldemort is Mr. Burns. Wormtail is Smithers.

I must stop now.

As David would say: "The thing I see here... Oy". Or something to that effect. :)
Actually, it makes some crazy sort of sense. Especially Lucius as the Viva Las Gaygas star. :) The only thing I would object to is Ginny as Rachel. Rachel is this spoiled rich girl who only thinks about clothes and her hair (at least, initially). Ginny is way different. I think, Lavender or Parvati are more like Rachel. Am I taking this too seriously? :)

Date: 2006-03-05 01:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] donnaimmaculata.livejournal.com
I must say, I am particularly proud of Lucius as the Viva Las Gaygas star...

As someone said in one of the comment above: Ginny and Rachel are both passionate and... blank. So it's mostly a matter of interpretation ;-)

I don't think Ginny is like Rachel, either, but she's the closest fit from among the main characters.

If I was to take this seriously, I would now argue that Lavender and Parvati are by no means these shallow girls fandom makes them out to be. In canon, Lavender is characterised as a great animal lover (though she doesn't like mice) and Parvati as courageous and outspoken. No, honestly.

Mr Heckles is obviously Filch in disguise. In season one, he even tries to take the cat/Mrs Norris back from the horrible Paolo/Snape, who appears to be somewhat harrier than we thought.

The huge landlord/caretaker/something or other is Hagrid, and Phoebe's grandmother? Dumbledore! Because she kept things (her parents' indentities) from her and was generally not much more sane than Phoebe herself.

Why yes, I too am overdosing on Friends right now ;)

You mean Mr Treeger (??), the super? He's certainly big and hairy enough for Hagrid.

Snape is Richard, though.

Draco/Neville/Crabbe'n'Goyle: What, you mean Professor Snape is sexy?!

Ginny/Hermione/Luna: Oh, yeah *swoon*

Ginny: He kissed me once, you know.
Ginny: After I was rescued from Riddle. He came to the hospital wing and kissed me right here, on the tip of my nose.

*paraphrases*

I've just realised: Crabbe'n'Goyle could play Dr. Drake Ramoray and his evil twin, Hans!
