When I first created an online identity, I knew I wanted a lady-like name. Originally, I intended to gack a name from literature (lilith_de_tempscire was my first choice), but anything I could come up with was unavailable. I don't remember exactly how or when I came up with donnaimmaculata (it was supposed to be spelled "donna_immaculata", but that was one character too many for LJ), but I'm quite pleased with it: It's a (stupid) pun on my RL name, it's definitely very feminine and it's got a religious connotation. And I'm very fond of religious connotations. In fact, my first default icon was Marc Almond as Madonna des Coeurs by Pierre et Gilles. But then I settled for Medusa (likewise by Pierre et Gilles).

I'm tagging: camillabloom (because I like LJ names which are real names, but not RL names), swatkat24 (because it makes me think of cats, and I like cats), coeursaignant (because you've changed the name not too long ago and I didn't realise who you were), lolaraincoat (because your name makes me think of a Hollywood star from the 40s and I've always had a crush on it, even before we friended each other), slippyslope (because I've got the idea that there's a Meaning behind it), hill_ (because it sounds straightforward,... but is it?), ptyx (because I'm pretty sure that I read your explanation of it at some point, but can't remember what it was), thistle_chaser (because... how do you chase thistles?), hippediva (because I keep reading it in German, i.e. meaning "hip diva"), and chazpure (because I've no idea what it's supposed to mean and suspect it's something very obvious).

Old cartoon from the 80s(?). Two cats worked in a junk yard and built fighter jets out of the trash. As unrealistic as that was, I still enjoyed it a lot. :P

Hee! I've always liked your default icon - such a regal Medusa! Nice to know the rationale behind the username.

Mine is fairly straightforward... Back in the dim mists of time, when I was young and innocent new to online fandom, I posted all my (het...and gen!) fic to the mailing lists under my RL name. Then I wrote my very first slash-fic and was too chicken to post it. odogoddess, who was only a dear online friend at the time, offered to host it on her site under a pseud for me. She posted it using my RL initials only, CP, and I decided to come up with a pen name that would fit them. I decided "Chastity Pureheart" would make a nice tongue-in-cheek pen name, so I started using it for all my slash in that fandom, and referring to "Chaz" as my evil twin. *g*

I needed a separate email account for the persona and "chastity_pureheart@whatever.com" was just too long to type over and over, so I shortened it to ChazPure. When I joined LJ it was mostly for HP fandom, and I decided to use the existing slash-writer name rather than anything RL-based, or a whole new name. The same reasoning applied, so I went with chazpure. My journal's title is Chastity's Boudoir, and I still use Chastity Pureheart as the author name, along with my LJ handle on my fic.

Of course! I knew your pen name was Chastity Pureheart! Completely slipped my mind. See? I knew it was something very obvious.

Well, I switched journals at the end of 2005, is that really "not too long ago"? ;P


I think it was the situation I was in back then, the mood I was in because of that situation, which made me think of the flower. Its (German) name fit my situation (in a general way; I wasn't "heartbroken" in the classical sense), but I wasn't actually thinking (of) the words, I only ever saw the flower in my mind's eye..

And that's also why I chose its French name - I wanted to "distance" myself from the words somehow. (While I learned French for six years at schools, I can't speak it anymore, and I never "felt" it; at the same time, I like to use it to "obscure" things..)

It was only quite some time later that I found out that the French and German name for the flower differ in meaning.. I very much prefer the latter (the former is way too kitschy for my taste), but well.. seeing as I still associate the flower rather than the words with my LJ name (which doesn't make sense, I know), it doesn't matter all too much.
