Can you smell come*?

The linden trees in front of my house are in full bloom, and all I can think of is this:

*I can't bring myself to spell it "cum". I wonder how Mitchell and Webb spell it?

I don't think so and I dare say I smelled more varieties than M&W, but it amuses me nevertheless.

Sometimes they do. There was a grove I had to cycle through back when I was in college that smelled really strongly of it.

Perhaps they do come in different aromas. I bet someone breeds the special variety for fun.

I discovered the hard way that I'm viciously allergic to linden pollen, much more so than the maple that's been giving me sniffles and congestion since I was five.

No, the first time I ever encountered linden trees -- in York, not long after I stepped off the ferry in Hull, on a once-in-a-lifetime (so far) vacation with my family -- my eyes were swelling and my nose was both running and hopelessly congested. Luckily a nice chemist found some decent remedies for me.

It's a pity, because they smell BEAUTIFUL. Just as lilacs do. Which also give me the same reaction, as I discovered when I was nine.

Oh, btw, a long-established BDSM/erotica/erotic romance publisher in the US (founded over 20 years ago by a person I know well) insists on the spelling "come".

Oh you poor thing! I like the smell, too, as well as the smell of lilac (and I disagree with the claim of the M&W skit). It's such a shame that you can't enjoy it properly.

I prefer the spelling "come", because the other one connotes bad porn (unless it's used in the Latin meaning of "with", which is how I use it as well).

Congratulations on your book deal, btw! I saw your latest post, but seeing as I'm currently working against the clock and an impeding deadline, I haven't got round to commenting.

Deadlines take priority! The deal, of course, is that the publisher will bring it out, and, as a proper publisher does, they pay for the editing and the cover art and all that good stuff; however, as is the business model of most digital publishers, I don't get an advance. I only see money when it sells copies. My publisher is active about marketing, but I wonder how it's going to work, as some of the most popular m/m review blogs won't touch it. because it's got a GIRRRRRL in it.

Still. A REAL BOOK! That someone thinks is likely to sell enough to make it worth laying out the production costs! It's exciting.

They smell... rather more fruity and flowery than you'd expect after this introduction ;-) But all I can think of is this skit. It's most distracting!
