I consider fanfiction, to a great degree, as a platform that allows me to lust after some man I fancy. Therefore, I prefer to read fics that are not written from that man's PoV. I want see him through the eyes of others, because, in order to find someone fanciable, I musn't know what's going on inside their heads. I want the mystery. I want to remain an outsider. I want the distance.

Does that make sense to anyone else beside myself?

I couldn't agree more. Some characters I just cannot write because I want to be looking at them, dammit! And you want the other characters to appreciate their beauty and general wondrousness. Like you writing Snape/Remus. Although Snape doesn't like him, he can't help but be attracted to him and appreciate him because he (Remus) ROCKS! We already appreciate/want to shag/love him, but watching/writing the realisation dawn on someone else is great. Like we're nudging their elbow going 'look at that though! Look at his throat when he drinks! Don't tell me you don't like that...'

When Remus is being all mysterious and stuff, we don't want to know that he's thinking 'these underpants were a bad choice. I've totally got a wedgie.' Do we?

Your icon cracks me up. Every. Goddamn. Time.

'look at that though! Look at his throat when he drinks! Don't tell me you don't like that...'

Heh! Exactly.

Even though Remus was the character who drew me in into HP in the first place, it took me very long to be able to write from his PoV. I want him to be mysterious and I definitely don't want to know about his bad underwear choice. (There are sources, though, who claim that Remus doesn't wear underwear anyway.)

Oh my god, of course he doesn't wear underwear! How could I be so stupid. He couldn't be all feral and grrr with a pair of tightie whities on.

How come it was Remus that drew you in? The werewolf thing, or the mystery or teh hawt?

I'm becoming addicted to an RPG with Remus just now. And they keep using Jamie Bamber icons which is doubling my pleasure.

Because he's nice. I like nice men.

Seriously, though, I liked Remus from the start; the way he spoke and acted with that quiet authority, his polite and secretly amused way of insulting Snape, and when he turned out to be a werewolf, I was lost. The tragedy, oh the tragedy and drama and darkness behind the calm facade! All feral and grrr indeed *fans self*

Are you watching or playing in the RPG? And who's Jamie Bamber?

Yes, he is nice, isn't he, despite the loneliness and the secrecy and the goddamn bad luck of it all. He could be bitter, but he's not. And he has that dependable calm thing going on. The marauders would have disintegrated without him - the one you don't notice till he's gone.

And I love the bit in OotP when Harry is asking him and Sirius about Snape's worst memory and he is all 'I should have done a better job controlling my friends' etc which makes me want to cry every time I read it! *sniffles*

The rpg is [livejournal.com profile] the_leaky. I'm watching, because I'm not online often enough to rp and people would be hovering on the brinks of orgasms for hours and it wouldn't be fair. Jamie Bamber played Archie Kennedy (icon!) in Hornblower and I adore him.
