While reading old LJ entries, I came across this:

A long time ago, I made a post about how Remus Lupin = Jane Austen villain. And look what I said:

When I was considering a HP adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility", I settled for the obvious cast of Snape as Col. Brandon (naturally), Sirius as Willoughby and Remus as Edward Ferrars. But this is nonsense. Remus doesn't have any of that moral integrity that is Edward's most striking feature. He should be Willoughby and abandon the girl in an act of self-preservation.

See? I knew it. I knew Remus would run at the first opportunity. And if he and Tonks hadn't died, he would so have abandoned her and Ted some time later - Harry's preaching notwithstanding.

*feels smug*

I so totally disliked what Rowling did to Remus in DH. Where did that cool killer from PoA go? *protects Remus from JKR*

But you're right. Remus is such a Willoughby. Sirius, otoh, would do the honorable thing (bully though he was); ergo, he's Edward Ferrars. But omg, can you imagine Sirius as a country parson? *giggles*

I just read your post, and IMO Remus is even more of a Mr Elliot than he is a Willoughby.

Yeah, I drew the Willoughby parallel only, because I drew the Elliot parallel first.

I had great hopes for Remus on his first appearance in DH - when he was all efficient and level-headed and berated Harry after Harry had cast Expelliarmus at Stan Shunpike. But the rest - not so much.

Sirius as a country parson - now there's an image. He'd have to wear a round, flat black hat and be all repressed.

Hee! Go you! I agree. Also I love it when Remus acts for self-preservation.:)

I was rather amused when I came across that prediction. And self-preservation!Remus is my favourite type of Remus, too,, disfunctionality and all :-)
